the wisdom tales

i've been growing not one but all the four wisdom tooth for past three-four years. All but one of them, the one on the lower right side, are quite quietly coming up. However this LRS kept paining every month or so but I ignored it thinking with time the pain will reduce and I shall have the 32 pack. Alas not so. Last month the pain kept growing to the extent that I decided to finally pay a visit to the dentist. Three years after I first came to know that I must get rid of it. That time I chickened out deciding to keep the teeth and the pain. Now I decided to let go of both.

Actually it was the doctor who looked more doubtful this time. Asking me if was sure I wanted to do this and if I was ready. I was like, yeah dude I waited for like three years you know before calling it quits. The OPG was still the same like three years ago. The lower right side was sitting on a nerve causing all the pain. The upper right side one was still not finding any place to come out yet hanging there literally. The lefties are not so threatning as of now. But my earlier doc had assured me that my mouth has no more space left.

Thankfully this doc was too much concerned with the lower right one to talk to me about the rest. I was given a weeks prescription of anti biotics to heal the wound first which I took very painfully.

I am tabletphobic if there is such a word. I can't take them. Ever since my childhood I have had troubles gulping them. My father used to ask the docs whenever I fell sick to prescribe liquids rather than tablets. Infact once सबसे बड़े चाचाजी decided to forcefully give me a tablet because he thought I was such a chicken to be afraid of tablets. Just like the great नृसिंह भगवान् put the demon हिरिन्यकश्यप he put me on his thighs first. Then he simply dropped the tablet, risochin if I remember correctly to cure my fever, in my mouth followed by a mouthful of water. The results were totally unexpected. A shot of fountain flew through the air with the tablet riding on top of it and out of harms way. It happened in a flash and before anyone could realize what had happened I thought I would announce the the tablet was in. I did so and चाचाजी declared how simple the whole matter was and I agreed so and he said that in future I ever felt fear while taking in the tablet I should revisit this scheme and have no worries and I said I would remember this day as my independece from the phobia planet. Things were looking pretty rosy when my sister, my only and elder sister, announced where the tablet had landed and why I was trying to look smart. I ended up with two spoonfulls of septron.

So I took one week of antibiotics, the largest tablets I have ever taken in front of my wife who thought I was such a child making hue and cry of a simple thing. Her act reminds me of Banti, my childhood buddy, who could take tablets without water, who also used to laugh at my fear.

Finally the D-Day came when I was to get short of a tooth. Priyanka too came with me as she didn't want to miss the spectacle I was suppose to be going to cause. The doc and his assistant and her assistant seemed happy to see me which only made me more nervous than I already was but I didn't show it and perhaps that made them nervous since the doc asked me many times if I really wanted to go through the procedure. He cautioned me that I might feel slightly numb on the cheek or chin for a week or a month or six months whatever. I was so anxious that I wasn't really hearing anything and just wanted the damn tooth out of me.

Finally the procedure started. The doc warned me that it may take 15 mins or 50 but once they start they won't rest until it's done and neither can I. I was given local anesthesia around the tooth. I saw the tools only after this. Small ones. Not very intimidating at all. A few knocks here and there. After some 15 mins the doc took started with the drilling. I panicked.

I have a history with the drill machine. It has always caused us pain no matter what size. There are two instances which I distinctly hold against the dear tool of many.

One is when my father had to get one of his tooth extracted. When he came home after the extraction or partial extraction I should say, he was in a lot of pain. The dentist, ,lesser sophisiticated than mine, had unscuccessfully used a drill machine to extract the tooth but even after many attempts only half of it could come out. The other half remained strictly in place. The drilling caused papa severe headache due to the vibrations it causes. Him being the kind who rarely showed emotions or pain, it was evident to me how pathetic that doc must have been and how insane the drill machine was.

Second one is rather misuse of the drill machine by our local handy man. In the newly built house of ours, we wanted to install covers made of iron sheets on the shelves. For this it was required to carve some holes, big square holes, on the sides of the shelves. The handy man thought it prudent to use the drill machine for this and broke at least two rods in the process and completed not even one hole. Big time disaster and my loathing for the drill only grew further. The scenic hole remained in the position for a long time until one fine day we contracted a more experience firm for the job and the covers were nicely installed and still hanging there in my good old house.

So you understand why I panicked seeing the much feared drill machine. The doc took no notion of this and continued with the jon in hand and soon afterwards came the first piece of my tooth. From here on stared a long process of push and pull and dig and drill. Second piece and still no sign of finish line on their faces. I began to feel a lot of pain but thought it customary to feel some. Afterall tooth extraction is something to be afraid of normally, right? So I bagan moaning and sweating and the doc asked me if I already had enough or what? That sure hurt my feeling and I said well no, continue but give me some more anesthesia as it's damn painfull in there. He oblized and I relaxed and everyone continued once more. I think the whole procedure laster almost an hour when finally the tooth gave way and the doc reached out and just plucked it as if it was a fruit of his labour.

Nobody said anything about stitches. Yet here he was getting ready to apply them. I, having rather a single earlier experience of them, was not overtly worried. I think 3 or 4 stitches were applied and the operation successful minus any red or green bulb. A long list of advices and prescriptions followed. I was handed over the three piece tooth which is still kept neatly in one of the drawers in my house. It's two weeks since and I still have some numbness on my chin which I think has decided to stay for some time. We'll see. In the meanwhile I am enjoying the cavity. Extra storage is always welcome.

that's it for today.
जय श्री कृष्ण जय श्री राम।

bhai visit

bhai along with bhabhi, sil and sadoo bhai came for a one day trip to Delhi. Bhabhi's nani expired after long illness. picked them from Anand Vihal ISBT, went home and stayed for a couple of hours and then I dropped them at BH. it was pretty chilly yesterday though...

memento

I watched memento last night almost a decade after it was released. of course couldn't make sense of the story and had to read it up on the net and apparently no one really truly knows the truth about the story. will probably watch it again and see if things still continue to not make much sense which would be a wonderfully reliable reason for a third viewing.

dreams

mo more hazy,
no longer discontinuous,
just like real,
off late my dreams have become.

I am back in the galaxy
and things are different.
I am more concentrated on the plot
but it still manages to lose me.
Arthur, where art thou?

to the moon and back

You know I noticed a funny thing today while listening to the song 'to the moon and back' by Savage Garden. The thing is most english songs use 'vocals' to take the song at the stage from where the instrumental can take off. So they end in a long instrumental section. While Hindi songs are just the opposite. They use instruments to take the song from where the vocals can take off. So they end always in vocals. hmmmmmm

btw here is the song ...
